When will the renovation of the Coffee House begin?

The Coffee House will close its doors on August 13th, 2009.

Oh no!  Where will I go to get my Coffee House food?

Never fear!  The CoHo is creating a temporary foodservice operation (beginning on Monday, August 17th) in the east wing of the Memorial Union to serve coffee, espresso, baked goods, pizza, sandwiches and bagels.  For more information please see our interim map, which is located in the hallway of the Memorial Union, outside the entrance to Griffin Lounge.  You can also find the listings of the temporary locations by clicking the "locations" button at the top of this page.

Why the heck did you pick the east wing of the MU for your interim dining facility?

Because we make a large percentage of our food from scratch here at the Coffee House, we needed to pick a location that would have room for a mobile prep kitchen.  The best location for this temporary kitchen was found to be the bike parking area just south of the ATM machines, post office and book buy-back room.  Once we had found a location for the temporary kitchen, we examined potential service areas within walking distance, and realized that the most convenient location was the east wing of the MU.  This location allows us to keep our service areas relatively close to one another and our temporary kitchen all at once.  It's not perfect, but we feel like it will be a good home for the next year.

How long will the renovation last?

The Coffee House will close on August 13th, 2009 and will re-open in fall 2010.

Who's paying for this renovation?

In 2004 the ASUCD passed a referendum to support the CoHo renovation, dedicating $8 per quarter that students paid in their registration fees.

What is the goal of the upcoming renovation?

The referendum was passed with the intent of increasing and improving Coffee House seating, making lines more efficient and the dining rooms more cohesive.

What food will be available during the interim period?

Because of space issues we will be unable to offer ALL Coffee House menu items during the interim period.  However, we will be serving the following from the east wing of the Memorial Union:

-  Coffee

-  CoHome-made Baked Goods

-  Pizza

-  Made-To-Order Deli Sandwiches

-  Bagels and Spreads

-  Grab n' Go Sandwiches and Salads

-  Espresso Drinks

Will all my favorites from the "old" CoHo still be available in the "new" CoHo?

When the newly renovated Coffee House opens in August of 2010 you can expect to find almost all of your old favorites being sold.  In addition to the menu items that are being served during the interim, the Hot Food Line, Pho soup, full Tex-Mex Grill line, pasta and an extensive selection of salads will be back in 2010 for your dining pleasure!

Are there going to be new menu items added after the renovation?

Yes!  Current plans call for sushi and fruit smoothies to be sold in the new Coffee House in addition to all of our current selections!
